How to Score Good FASTPASS Times for Big Ticket Rides at California Adventure

Good Morning! This week I want to share one of my favorite tips to give family and friends when planning their vacations!

Since California Adventure’s major remodeling project and rededication back in 2012, the park has received some really popular and exciting attractions! However, the lines for these attractions can get extremely long. I checked the Disneyland app just after 12:00 PM yesterday and the line for Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout! was already 80 minutes long with FASTPASS return times between 6:50 & 7:50 PM. Radiator Springs Racers was up to 150 minutes and FASTPASSES were already gone for the day! However, getting decent FASTPASS times for these two rides is not impossible! And no, you don’t need to purchase MaxPass to do it (though it can be a good option). The key is to arrive EARLY. You will actually want to plan on getting to California Adventure at least 30-45 minutes before the gates open. Make sure to take into account days with Magic Morning Hours. I know what you're thinking - you're tired just from reading that, but I promise it will be worth it when you are hanging out with the Guardians at 10 AM instead of 7 PM.

So like I said, get there 30-45 minutes before the gates open and get in line for park entry. It's surprising how big the crowd can get around this time and you will be thankful you aren’t at the end of that line when the rope drops. Once you get in to the park, head left towards Hollywood Land for Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout! or straight ahead through Buena Vista Street for Radiator Springs Racers. You will see the line forming for FASTPASS ticket queues once you get closer. In fact, I have seen the lines back all the way up to Buena Vista Street for both rides just to get FASTPASSES. Here’s the nice part - one person in your party can take all of the park tickets and wait in line while the rest of the party goes on another ride or orders breakfast. We like getting pastries and hot cocoa at the Five and Dime for breakfast on these mornings! This is perfect if you are traveling with little kids - one less line for them to wait in! While the FASTPASS lines do seem really long, they move really quick. I have never waited more than 20-25 minutes to get my FASTPASSES and my return time has rarely been after 12 PM for either ride.

This is a really helpful tip to keep in mind for any new ride, especially this coming summer with the new Pixar Pier coming to California Adventure! FASTPASSES will fill up quickly so make sure you get in line nice and early!
