Make Waiting in Lines Fun!
Good Morning & HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Disneyland!
On July 17th, 1955, Disneyland opened up to the public! Even though opening day was a bit of a disaster, Disneyland still welcomed its 1 millionth customer only 7 weeks later. Now, 63 years later, Disneyland is more popular than ever and crowds keep getting bigger and bigger - creating really long lines for popular attractions.
The idea of standing in those long lines is a bit daunting - however, there are some ways to make those wait times a little less boring! Here are a few of our favorite ways to pass the time!
Heads Up!
If you have a smart phone, download the app "Heads Up!" (by Ellen DeGeneres.) It's a lot like the game Headbands, and is a mobile version of the game Ellen plays on her show. One person will hold the phone towards the group so they can't see the screen, and the rest of the group tries to get them to guess the words that pop up on the screen. When you are in Disneyland, turn on your location access for the app and it will allow you to download the Disney Parks deck for free! This is such a fun game to play in lines at Disneyland. Pay close attention and you will find you aren't the only ones playing! Many people use this app as a way to pass the time.
Disney Trivia
A fun way to pass the time is to quiz each other with some Disney Park trivia! I did a quick search online and found a couple of cool sites for Disney Parks facts and trivia, and there are TONS more out there! I have only tried a few trivia apps (unfortunately my favorite ones are no longer available), but there are lots of websites and apps that have created trivia and "search and finds" for certain attractions. You can have a lot of fun with these in line!
Look for Hidden Details in Line
Many of the lines in Disneyland are filled with neat hidden gems and fun things to check out. For example, all of the "costumes" in line for Mater's Junkyard Jamboree are inspired by the cartoons "Mater's Tall Tales". See if you can find the Evil Queen from Snow White peering down at you while in line for Peter Pan's Flight. You can even download a decoder online and decode the writing on the walls in line for Indiana Jones! (Here is an example of one I found on the Disney Parks Blog). Disney Parks add a lot of detail to their lines to help keep guests entertained while waiting for attractions!
